Like the sports-event industry itseif, the National Association of Sports Commissions has seen quite an evolution over the last 20 years. Starting with a modest goal of creating a forum to discuss the best strategies in sports-event bidding, the NASC has grown into a nearly 600-member organization and has become a leader in the industry.

Blue Diamond baseball and softball tourney April 14-15

Baseball and softball players from around the state meet at Old Settlers Park to compete this month in a two-day tournament.

In 2011 April's Blue Diamond tournament produced 3,225 athletes as well as its biggest economic boost to date and the city expects 2012 to be no different. In April 2009, baseball alone totaled $584,652 in economic activity, according to Round Rock Convention and Visitors Bureau officials.

ROUND ROCK, TEXAS - The Round Rock Parks and Recreation Department will host the annual Flashlight Egg Hunt and new this year a “Movies in the Park” event featuring the family Easter movie “Hop” after the last egg hunt is completed. All the fun takes place this Thursday, April 5 beginning at 7:45pm at Old Settlers Park Lakeview Pavilion and Festival Area. The event is sponsored by Randalls Market and Spirit 105.9 radio station.

If there's anybody whose name doesn't fit their personality, it's Nancy Yawn. There's nothing boring about Yawn, who serves as executive director for Round Rock's Convention and Visitor's Bureau.

Now, readers of SportsEvents magazine have discovered what Round Rock residents have known for some time: Round Rock is a great place to hold sporting events. And Nancy Yawn is a "Planner to Watch."

Round Rock ISD softball tourney to take place this weekend

Varsity softball players will kick off their preseason at Westwood High School's Warrior Stadium with the Round Rock ISD Softball Invitational, which begins on Thursday, Feb. 23 and will conclude on Saturday afternoon.

Teams from across the state will travel to Round Rock in order to show the improvements they made during the off season.

When the city of Round Rock, Texas, identified amateur sports as an opportunity for enhancing economic development, Nancy Yawn was ready for the challenge. As director of the Round Rock Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) since 2004, Yawn has helped the region secure its title as "Sports Capital of Texas."

"I knew I had to recruit and host the best tournaments year round...and gain the confidence of city leadership and the citizens of Round Rock to further the branding effort," she said.
